Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Ltd. is jointly established by Shenzhen Energy Group and China Africa Development Fund in 2007, mainly engaged in the construction and operation of Asogli Power Plant in Ghana.
Asogli Power Plant, covering an area of 200,000 square meters, is located in Tema, Greater Accra Region, Ghana, on the north side of the Gulf of Guinea, and approximately 29 kilometers to Ghana’s Capital--Accra. The Project is planned to build gas-steam combined cycle generating units with a total installed capacity of 560MW in two phases. The Phase I Project, with an installed capacity of 2 × 100 MW and a total investment of about 200 million USD, was completed and put into operation in 2010. The Phase II Project is to build two 9E gas-steam combined cycle units with an installed capacity of 2 × 180MW and a total investment of about 591.84 million USD.
The Project commenced in May 2015 and connected to the grid via single-cycle system on February 16, 2016, which takes only eight months. The first set of unit (180 MW) was put into commercial operation on April 18, 2016, and China’s state leader Mr. Yu Zhengsheng attended the commissioning ceremony. The second set of unit (180 MW) was put into commercial operation in February 2017.
The construction and operation of the first phase of Sunon Asogli Power (Ghana) Ltd. has played a vital role in mitigating the electricity shortage in Ghana and even the entire West African, providing a strong support for Ghana’s take-off in economy and development.
